Omnitrans Joins ABC7, Firefighters in Toy Drive

Omnitrans and Buster join Santa and Southern California Firefighters, along with Garth Kemp and ABC7 to bring smiles to the faces of hundreds of children this holiday season.

The 20th Annual Spark of Love Toy Drive “Stuff a Bus” Event will take place on Friday, November 30th between 4:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m at Mathis Bros. Furniture at 4105 E. Inland Empire Blvd. in Ontario.

The “Spark of Love” Toy Drive collects new, unwrapped toys and games for underserved children throughout Southern California, and last year distributed more than 600,000 toys to 3,000 families. All toys collected in San Bernardino County will stay local, and be distributed to kids in surrounding communities.

Community members can participate by bringing a toy to the “Stuff a Bus” event,  or they may drop off a toy at Omnitrans offices, local fire stations or CVS Pharmacy Stores.

On Veterans Day, our country pays tribute to more than 26 million brave Americans who have served in our armed forces. We owe the many freedoms we often take for granted to their collective sacrifice and dedication. Without them, our nation and world would be an entirely different place. Rider Alert: Detour for Route 66 Rendezvous

The San Bernardino Convention & Visitors Bureau, producers of the Stater Bros. Route 66 Rendezvous© is gearing up for the 23rd Annual Rendezvous which takes place September 13 – 16 this year in the downtown streets of San Bernardino.

As always, there will be Omnitrans detours in effect during the event that passengers will need to be aware of. Please adjust accordingly, and if you have any questions call us at 1-800-9-OMNIBUS.

• Routes 1, 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9 will detour from 5^th Street and use  6^th Street.
• Routes 2, 5 and 15 will detour from 2^nd Street.
• Routes 10 and 11 will be not be affected.

Rebranding includes new mobile friendly website

San Bernardino, CA –Omnitrans unveiled its new logo, slogan and fleet graphics on Wednesday, August 15th at the transit agency’s main transfer center in downtown San Bernardino.

“The colors symbolize our green earth and blue sky, reflecting Omnitrans’ commitment to the environment, and air quality in particular, with our 100% natural gas-powered fleet,” explained CEO/General Manager Milo Victoria. “But my favorite part of Omnitrans’ new look is our tagline: ‘Connecting our Community.’ This is our purpose: to connect all members of the community – from students, to mothers, to commuters, to persons with disabilities and senior citizens – with the places they need to go to live their lives as they choose.”

Two New Flyer Xcelsior 2012 40-foot transit buses on display were decked out with a bold new fleet design in bright green and blue. Twenty of the new buses will be deployed in coming weeks to replace retiring models. The remaining 144 buses in the Omnitrans fleet will get a simplified color refresh.

The agency website, www.omnitrans.org, also got a makeover. Smart phone and tablet users can now instantly access maps and schedule information without cumbersome downloads or continuous scrolling. Important news and updates are prominently featured up front. The easy-to-use trip planner appears on every page. Drop-down menus allow the user to easily search information by service, route or destination. Fare information is available at the touch of a button, and passes can be purchased online.

New buses also feature 3-capacity bike racks, an upgrade from the 2-capacity racks on the existing fleet. Omnitrans transports over 300,000 bikes each year. To spotlight the new racks, Omnitrans held a “Rack and Roll” contest at the event. Contestants were timed loading a bike on to the rack. Al Langdon of Rialto had the fastest time and won a new bicycle courtesy of Performance Bicycles in Ontario, California.

Buster, the agency mascot was also updated with the new fleet graphics. The new logo and color scheme replace designs developed in 1985 and are the third logo and branding used by the transit agency in its 36-year history.

Omnitrans New Flyer Xcelsior bus features

Yesterday, Omnitrans unveiled its New Flyer Xcelsior buses, and the public response was overwhelmingly enthusiastic. These new buses are expected to go into service sometime next week, East Valley routes only. Below is a detailed list of some of the features included in the New Flyers. It’s a great time to climb aboard Omnitrans!

• These 40-feet long buses have a passenger capacity of 40 seated and two wheelchair positions.
• Bike racks have been expanded to accommodate up to 3 bicycles.
• Stop request sign is centrally located for easier viewing.
• Interior noise has been reduced to 72 decibels.
• Special heat guard glass blocks 95% of UV rays.
• Climate control system provides improved cooling and heating for both passengers and drivers.
• Mobility device loading ramp ratio improved for easier boarding and more precise curb alignment.
• Conversion from analog to digital instrumentation improves visual driver operations.
• Tinted sunroof  allows more light in the back of the bus.
• Non-skid flooring helps protect against slips and falls.
• Contactless Acoustic Sound System (CLASS) detects people and objects near exit doors with enhanced ultrasonic transducers.
• Four-wheel disc brake system provides smoother braking with greater efficiency, and potentially saves $13,000 in maintenance costs over the life of the coach.
• Fiberglass exterior panel construction is more dent resistant than aluminum construction.

The public is invited to view the latest additions to our fleet, the New Flyer Xcelsior buses, sporting updated vehicle graphics with our new colors and logo. A standout feature of the new buses is the much anticipated triple bike rack, which will allow the vehicles to transport three bikes instead of the normal two.

To celebrate, Performance Bicycle in Ontario is partnering with Omnitrans to sponsor a Rack ‘N Roll bike contest at the event, where participants will enter for a chance compete in a timed race to load a bike onto the rack.

Entry/practice time is between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.  Participants not selected to compete will be entered into a second chance drawing. You must be present at the time of the drawing in order to win.

San Bernardino, CA – Omnitrans is getting ready for a makeover and will unveil its new logo, slogan and fleet graphics to the public on Wednesday, August 15th from 8:30 to 10 am at the transit agency’s main transfer center in downtown San Bernardino.

The new logo and color scheme replace the current design developed in 1985 and will be just the third logo and branding used by the transit agency in its 36-year history.

New Flyer Xcelsior 2012 40-foot transit buses featuring bold new graphics will be on display. Twenty of the new buses are going into service this summer and fall to replace retiring models. The remaining 144 buses in the Omnitrans fleet will get a simplified color refresh, illustrated by a travel training bus debuting at the event. The travel training bus, equipped with video displays and a public address system, will begin hitting the road for live how-to-ride demonstrations this fall.

New buses feature 3-bike racks, an upgrade from the 2-bike capacity racks on the existing fleet. “Our customers have asked for 3-bike racks to keep up with demand,” said CEO/General Manager Milo Victoria. Omnitrans transports over 300,000 bikes each year.

Omnitrans will give away a new bike to the winner of a “Rack and Roll” contest, designed to show off the new bike racks. The bike, a 2012 Charge Zester Fitness Bike valued at $900, is being donated by Performance Bicycle in Ontario. Contestants, selected from those present, will be timed loading a bike on to the rack. Contest registration takes place on site between 8:30 and 9:00 am. A VIP competition will feature local elected officials loading bicycles.

A brief program features Omnitrans CEO/General Manager Milo Victoria, Mayor of Yucaipa/Omnitrans Board Chair Dick Riddell, and Mayor of Upland/Omnitrans Board Member Ray Musser. Omnitrans also will unveil its updated agency mascot, Buster, and a retooled agency website. Refreshments and new logo items are provided for all attendees.
